Day 8 Sukhothai at sunrise, with pink lotus flowers framing the reflection of ancient ruins in the placid water of temple ponds, is pure magic. Anyone wanting to rise early enough can pretty well have this sacred site to themselves.   Following a hearty breakfast we set off on a 40 minute drive through the rural countryside to the Sukhothai airport - undoubtedly the most beautiful open-air airport in the world. All too soon our journey has come to an end. It's a short flight to Bangkok and homeward connections, but the experiences we have had together will never be fully forgotten.
